Generally speaking, Shopify Payments is a built-in payment processor that makes transactions go smoothly by allowing sellers to offer credit/debit cards, digital wallets (like Google Pay or Apple Pay), Cash-On-Delivery (COD), and bank transfers in their Shopify stores.

There are also options like PayMe and FPS for local transactions and Hoolah’s Buy Now Pay Later installments through the new Shopify Checkout.

So, what is the Shopify Payments fee that you mention? It is a small expense that applies when you make an electronic payment. This fee ranges from 2.4% to 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, depending on your subscription plan.

Shopify subscription plans typically are Basic Shopify at USD 29/month, Shopify at USD 79/month, and Advanced Shopify at USD 299/month. The higher your plan, the lower the transaction fees you’ll pay.

Specifically for Hong Kong, the credit card rates are a bit different. For the Basic Shopify Plan, the fee is 3.3% plus HKD 2.35 per transaction. If you are on the regular Shopify Plan, it drops slightly to 3.2% plus HKD 2.35.

Oddly enough, the Advanced Shopify Plan brings the fee back up to 3.3% plus HKD 2.35, which might seem counterintuitive but is something to keep in mind.
